‘He Calls Me Beautiful One’ – Your Truth in God’s Eyes

By Esther | July 29th 2020 | Self-Care Series, Wellness and Recovery, Woman Empowerment

Insecurity is one of the ills of the human mind, spirit.

All of us have felt insecure at some point in our lives. And this has often led to negative consequences in our relationships, work, self-esteem, and in all other aspects of our life.

A lot of our insecurity come from how we perceive ourselves. There are far too many of us (women especially) who fail to see the beauty that is in us. We often devalue our worth because every culture, religion, country and race has said, somewhere along the way, that we are not beautiful.

We have been disabled by the society that we live in. Everywhere we see glorification of the perceived notions of what being beautiful means. And these notions are all superficial standards with which we gauge ourselves and base our imperfections.

We are too tall, too short, too strong, too weak, too big, too skinny, and on and on it goes. We have been programmed to see the fault in us. And with every flaw we become insecure, we lose our confidence and love for ourselves, and our lives are then filled with hurt and shame.

But that is not what God sees.

God calls every single one of us ‘beautiful’ because that is what we are to Him. He does not create less, and He does not change His mind about what He has made. This was why I called my Festa Della Donna event a few years back “He Calls Me Beautiful One”. It became an avenue for me to help people break out from their prison of insecurity and see what God sees in them.

So, how do you get back on track through days when you struggle to see the beauty in you? Here is a little system that you can take on:

1. Get present.

Getting caged up in insecurity gets us stuck in a mental spiral. STOP, take a step back and get present with where you are now. Most of the time, the only thing that is not beautiful in a “stuck” moment are the thoughts in your head. Take a good, real look around and see the beauty of the lines, shapes, and colors in your environment. Center yourself and see everything through His eyes, including yourself. In the eyes of the Father, the Creator, and the Almighty, you will see everything in a new light.

2. Give yourself reminders.

When you are in a place of insecurity, it is often so easy to fall in a negative thought pattern. So, do what you can do to consistently remind yourself that you are beautiful. It can be simple things such as printing off the Song of Solomon and reading it in the morning or before you go to bed at night, or both! One of the best ways that work is to put a reminder on your screen saver. Every time you turn on your phone, laptop, or computer, you are reminded of your true beauty. Other things can be leaving yourself sticky notes around the house or setting up reminders in your phone and on your computer that you can set to the tune of your favorite inspirational song. Whatever it may be, make sure that you surround yourself with positivity and motivation. You are worth this effort!

3. Serve yourself first.

At the end of the day, the only opinion that matter is yours, not anyone else’s. Only your belief in your own beauty matters. And only you can make the journey to yourself. But sometimes the place where we should start is far from that light. So, when you’re standing in front of the mirror, and it feels difficult to believe that you could be beautiful, look yourself in the eye and say, “God thinks I am beautiful.” And that you know that is true.

We were born to soar. We were born to be boldly and beautifully who we are. Even in the midst of the messes in our lives – during the bad hair days, through the ugly crying, in raging anger, and even in all the times when it feels like life is coming apart at the seams.

As we take on those challenges and work our way through them, we get the opportunity to become brighter and more beautiful as we shine in our light.

So, don’t be afraid to take a look in the mirror and see the beauty that He sees. Say it out loud and speak life into it. Speak it until you believe it, with just as much passion and love as God has when He says it.

Let go of the false perceptions you’ve been holding onto and find the truth He sees in you.
